Résumé

Jerome Kern, un jeune compositeur de revue en quête de succès, fait la connaissance du directeur d orchestre James Hessler. Les deux hommes, tout de suite en symbiose, décident de partir pour l Angleterre où ils deviennent célèbres dans les théâtres de Broadway. A Londres Jerome rencontre Eva, et, tombé sous son charme, il décide de l épouser. La vie des deux amis suit son parcours naturel jusqu à ce que la fille de James, Sally, s enfuit de son collège afin de réaliser son rêve : devenir une chanteuse de revue. Jerome essaie de la dissuader car le milieu du spectacle ne ressemble pas toujours à un long fleuve tranquille, mais, vu la persévérance de la jeune femme, le compositeur décide dans un deuxième temps de lui écrire une chanson. Aucun imprésario ne l appelle. Sally reste alors très bouleversée et le pauvre James accablé par les insuccès de sa fille – s éteint peu de temps après. Jerome part alors rejoindre Sally afin de l aider à trouver le chemin de la gloire…
